An unusual female portrait amongst watercolor trauma paintings

I’d like to analyze the astrology of one of the series that I find it’s themes quite interesting, in “astrocinema” section of this month. Marvel’s Jessica Jones, which has recently broadcasted it’s third season on Netflix.

Series and movies in our age, are more than what they seem to be and they play a big role as the products of the collective unconscious. What’s interesting is, I see that the themes that are played out in series and movies are usually in strong connection with the key actors/actresses individual astrological birth charts. The synchronicities can be quite outstanding as the living forms of astrological symbolism.

As the actors/actresses build their careers, they are giving birth to a unique expression which roots its origins in their own astrological themes and planets & stars in their own natal charts. This even might be one of the reasons we call them “stars”. I tried to demonstrate some examples of this notion while I was examining another series, This is Us . This month I am hosting misty eyed, super strong private eye of the Marvel universe, Jessica Jones in astrocinema section.

Jessica Jones is one of the series that I watch from the beginning to the end and then rewatch backwards due to the very interesting character developments. The depth of the characters and their longings, the subjective perceptions they base their choices on at the hardest moments, sense of ethics and personal trauma histories feels like you are in a watercolor painting which is accidentally washed by a bottle of whisky. Scorpio and Pisces themes are felt most at the first glance in the series. Witnessing how this amazing divine system works out feels beyond words and amazingly enough this article is being published on a Pisces moon inconjunct Neptune!

Private investigation is a Scorpio theme by nature. Numbing intense emotions and unhealed traumatic pain through alcohol or sex and the wretchedness in the physical environment being normalized as a daily routine is the most ordinary expression of Scorpio in Pisces. Jones is wearing a Piscean costume on herself with the misty and pensive eyes, torn up jeans and a load of drinks. If her preference was not alcohol in the series, we would have seen her as someone who has a spiritual/religious take on life or someone very much into music perhaps.

Kyrsten Ritter, the actress playing Jessica Jones, is a Sagittarian and has Pisces as the ascending sign.

We learn that she was into music in her life, been a guitarist and vocalist in the entertainment industry. Jupiter as the ruling planet of Sagittarius is in the sign of Scorpio and has a piscean tune to it. We see that she is drawn to intense emotional experiences and lost causes and cares about living to the edge of an experience and make the true sense of what it is really about in a no bullshit way. Her Sagittarian Sun is in a close conjunction with Neptune emphasizes piscean themes even more. Intense piscean themes creates a handfull and hard to catch personality just like a fish, as well as escapist tendecies from life’s more established structures, which are also the essence of the character, Jessica Jones in the series. In her own words;

“I’ve always lived out of a suitcase. I was in a new city every three months. When I was a model, I traveled the world, and as an actor you’re traveling from movie set to movie set. So I’ve never been in one place long enough for anything super-bad to happen. “

Beliefs, facts and beyond good and bad..

Sagittarius and Pisces together, bring forth issues around beliefs, morality and ethics, and a philosophical, wiser outlook to the life itself. Jessica Jones either finds herself in situations with a questionable morality, or people around her do. We see many examples of handling bad, for a good cause or those who are known for their bad preferences surprisingly choose to do good in the entire series. Ritter, mentions this phenomenon in her own book “Bonfire” like this:

“The problem is that people think in black and white. They think they can have the good without the bad. But everything that’s good for one person is probably bad for someone else. Life isn’t like the Bible says it is. It isn’t a choice between good and evil. It’s about choosing which evils you can stand.”

Sagittarius also brings a somewhat carefree attitude to all kinds of situations, and a little uncalculating, unapologetic approach to finding her own comfort zone mostly beyond the socially accepted range. Along with Virgo moon, a sarcastic and dry sense of humor is observed in daily experiences, yet creating a devotion to “pay the bills” despite the difficult nature of experiences.

“I am sarcastic and dry, but I also have a pretty huge zest for life.”

Relationships, obsessions and true intimacy..

Another significant theme of the series is relationships and obsessions within them, traumas and family connections around them. Basic topic of most of Jessica’s private investigations is the truth behind a suspicion of a cheating spouse. The significant male characters in her life are obsessive, from a different cultural background, well educated and quite intelligent. Libra and Scorpio themes show themselves as the reality of the relationships, true intimacy & trust and transformative nature of intense emotional experiences in the show. Kyrsten Ritter has a tight Saturn Pluto conjunction and a 0 degrees Mars in Libra (8th house!) and Jupiter in Scorpio.

When we think about relationships, Venus is the first thing that comes to mind. Venus is in the freedom loving sign of Aquarius and tends to keep its distance to traditional ties and inclined towards unorthodox relationships and is in the 12th house of Ritter’s chart. Also Venus and Saturn are in mutual reception.

In every season of Jessica Jones, there is an obsessive male character that can get under her skin and evoke powerful emotions, cause crisis and beaten down in the end like Kilgrave and Salinger. (Saturn/Pluto) And adding to the symbolism, super power of Jessica Jones is to be able to influence matter through an unprecedent power not expected from a female or even a human being. Scorpio as the sign opposing the matter and 8th house of the actress with Satun Pluto and Mars perfectly complete the picture.

The exaggeratedly optimistic nature of a Sagittarian sun together with going overboard tendencies of Scorpio and added spice of Piscean letting go or escaping when the going gets rough, through various addictions, we see “Balance” theme as a transformative power. No matter how much she drinks, Jessica Jones does function at work. She carries her burden no matter how big is the emotional pain. We see this even in the tough but mutually understanding nature of her relationship with the successful and opportunistic lawyer (Libra!) Jeri Hogarth. (Ritter has south node in Capricorn btw) 12th house themes are evident in relationships as well, mirroring the actresses own chart..There is one particular moment near the end of the last season (spoiler alert!), a dialogue between Jessica and Trish right after she broke the news that Salinger got in jail for life- and it was not a relief for Trish- that depicts this so perfectly.

Trish: I am so angry..
JJ: So am I. That’s the burden we have to carry
Trish: I’m not sure I can..
JJ: Most people can’t. They wind up dead or in jail.

In the series Jessica Jones is an independent woman who is a private investigator, living in the big city away from her hometown, lost her family in a car crash and was adopted as a child. Leaving the hometown and building a career is a theme in Ritter’s own natal chart as well. Ironically enough, the main character of her book ” Bonfire” is also known for leaving behind her small town roots to build a thriving career, becomes a private detective and forced to confront her past through a case! As a tenth house sun and Capricorn south node, she was born to build a career.

” I started studying acting, got commercials, and here we are 100 years later. I’m acting and writing and I have a pool and a dog. “

Jessica Jones: Victim and the savior

Pisces with Scorpio Jupiter is like an irresistable call for situations with crisis, uncovering the truth behind a mystery and ultimately bringing balance through trying/deep close encounters for her in the series, probably in her own life as well. Jessica Jones is surrounded by Neptunian themes, addicts, psychics, mass media you name it. Her sidekick and neighbour Malcolm (Eka Darville) was saved by her somehow. Trish, her step sister is a drug addict digging through trouble as a hobby, also a media celebrity, JJ heavily drinks. We observe Neptunian victim and savior themes throughout the series.

The other characters in the series are well built and also carrying an outstanding astrological symbolism on themselves. I wanted to emphasize the analogy between Krysten Ritter’s natal chart themes and main themes of the series which she is the leading actress, Jessica Jones. I hope this was a fun reading for the astrology enthusiasts.

At the moment, as we are experiencing north node in cancer, beautiful actress Krysten Ritter, is having a return of her own north node, bringing forth issues around creativity, children, family and fun. We understand from her latest photos she shares on her instagram that she is pregnant and expecting her first child. The moon as the ruler of Cancer is in Virgo in her natal chart and not only she adopted a hybrid unique dog, survived an accident, she is an activist and an avid knitter.

Final thoughts..

As I was ending this article I realized that I skipped checking the airing date of the show and it put a cosmic smile on my face. In the first airing date of Jessica Jones, Sun was in Scorpio and Moon was in Pisces along with Chiron and Neptune. Moreover, around those days Kyrsten Ritter was having her Mars return, which was starting a new cycle around her creative expression and her work. Greetings to all ears who can hear the music in the flow of the universe..
